Movie markers’ intent
The movie Ghost In The Shell was based on Japanese manga Ghost In The Shell. The movie talks about a girl called Motoko was changed to be a cyborg. She is fully mechanical but had a human mind. By narrating the process Motoko finding out her identity, the director let the audience make the consideration about ethic issues brought by technologies. The conflicts between the company and Motoko is actually the identity problems with a robot with a human mind. As the movie shows the audience the conflicts, the director is actually asking the audience: Does the machine bodies belong to the company that built it or belong to the person who uses it? What defines a person a human? The movie also gives its own answer: it is what people do defines who they are. This movie did a good job coming up with problems with robots and enhanced humans. The story of Major’s lost in identity is also the perplexity of ethics applying on enhance bodies.
